It didn't actually take as long as I thought it would to fair the hull. It took a couple hours to sand one section, then I pulled out the trusty old Dremel and did the rest of the ship in about the same amount of time.
This is the first time where I've paid a lot of attention to fairing the hull, and I must say it looks pretty good (i.e., smooth) when I run a loose plank along the various sections. It just needs a bit of manual sanding to smooth out a few of the edges and then it should be good to go with the planking.
While I had the Dremel out, I fixed the stern...
